Galton Blackiston – Morston Hall chef to open own chippy at Cromer

Galton Blackiston, the TV chef and proprietor of the Michelin starred Morston Hall, is to start a new business venture by creating an old-fashioned style fish and chip shop at Cromer.

The new business will be run in collaboration with Galton’s friend Spencer who currently operates a very popular fish and chip stall on Norwich Market.  The main selling point of the fish and chips is that they are to be cooked in the traditional way with beef dripping rather than oil.  Anyone that has frequented fish and chip restaurants in the north of England will know just what a difference that makes – delicious!

Perhaps Mr Blackiston has intentions to expand in other ways into Cromer as Rick Stein did in Padstow (Padstein)? Good luck to him.

The venture is to be called Number One New Street and should be opened for business in mid-July.

  1. Ate there a few weeks ago on the night of the carnival and it was fantastic. Came away feeling like the food is actually underpriced considering how good it is. Didnt know who the man who presented my sons meal in a bucket and spade was until i saw Saturday Kitchen today on TV and realised it was Galton himself.

  2. Hi Carole

The takeaway is open but the restaurant opening times seem to vary a bit. I would imagine that with it being such a new enterprise opening late in the season they might have had trouble staffing it.

  3. Hi is the new fish and chip shop opened yet, I live in Caister On Sea and would like a day out in Cromer and would love to come and try your fish and chips, looking forward to it.
    Many Thanks
    Carole

  4. Hooray!!! At last a decent chippy in Cromer. You would never think Cromer was famous for its crabs and fresh fish. Just what we need to raise the tone in our lovely town. Thank you Galton.
