North Norfolk featured in the Sunday Times Style Magazine

North Norfolk’s Holkham Hall This weekend’s Sunday Times Style magazine featured North Norfolk as a possible mini-break venue. The front page header reads: “Cornwall! Norfolk! Whitley Bay?” I turned the page and read: “North Norfolk increasingly plays host to an arty, intellectual crowd.” Very nice of them to say so! The article continued to heap praise: “Champagne sands and some of the most beautiful gardens in England make the North Norfolk coast a desirable retreat”. The gardens featured are those…

The Big Freeze of 1962/63

The Big Freeze of 1962/63

A North Norfolk Road during the ‘big freeze’. For many people of my generation, 1962 will be memorable for the ‘big freeze’; however, it was quite a trying year in other ways. I was still at school in 1962 and can remember the anxiety caused by the Cuban Missile Crisis that brought the USSR and the US to the brink of nuclear war. In October, that political crisis was resolved to everyone’s relief, only to be followed by the severe…

A Summer in the Norfolk Broads

A Summer in the Norfolk Broads

Sailing Craft on the River Thurne The year 2020 was when Mother Nature gave humanity a resounding kick up the backside. The coronavirus has reminded us that even though we are the head of the food chain on the planet, she will always have the upper hand. Fortunately, the UK government’s lockdown rules to control the virus’s spread did allow us to leave our North Norfolk homes to take exercise. That got me thinking about how I could do something…
